Resource Models of Human Cognition
Tue, Oct 28, 2025
10:00 am – 11:00 am
Join us at the library for coffee, socializing, and learning something new.
Human cognition is far from fully understood by the sciences, but theories of cognition have taken root over the years due to contributions from a great many academic disciplines. This presentation explores one such theory: the small grains of thought, often referred to as "resources" or "agents," combine and network with one another to form more complex structures of knowledge and thinking. Come learn about the history of this theory, its explanatory power for many everyday human behaviors, and its implications for education in physics and beyond.
About the Presenter: Dr. Sam Engblom is a postdoctoral researcher in physics at the University of Illinois. As a child, Sam's family relocated from southwest Montana to the deeply historied city of Istanbul, where he developed a love for shared stories and diverse experiences. He enjoys basketball - both playing and watching - dancing, games with friends, and discussions of teaching, learning, or lasers.
