Main Library


Starting November 20,  the Library will be open for curbside and virtual services only. Due to the pandemic, both buildings will be closed to the public.

You’ll find a wide variety of books,  movies, and music, as well as free events for all ages, at our beautiful, state-of-the-art Main Library. Looking for tech options? We offer free wifi, dozens of public computers with internet access,  Chromebooks and hotspots to check out, plus public meeting rooms.

Entertaining, educational, and free — our schedule of free events for all ages includes  storytimes,   book discussions, tech workshops, career coaching, help for entrepreneurs, and much more.  Find out about  great events.

Awards for library design & engineering

Our library has been awarded:

  • AIA Central Illinois Architecture Design Honor Award, awarded to Ross Barney Architects (2008)
  • American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL) Special Achievement Award, and American Institute of Architects (AIA) Central Illinois Honor Award for Architecture, for engineering design of the library, awarded to Henneman Engineering (2009)
  • American Institute of Architects, Chicago Chapter, Design Excellence Awards, Honor Award (highest distinction) for Interior Architecture, awarded to Ross Barney Architects (2009)
  • Brick Industry Association Brick in Architecture Awards, Silver Award (2009)
