Pilates originated with Joseph Pilates, a German-born visionary who created his method—originally called Contrology—to unite body and mind through precise, controlled movement. Developed in the early 1900s, his work emphasized breath, alignment, and balanced strength. Over time, Pilates evolved from its classical roots into a modern practice that integrates current anatomy and movement science, helping people worldwide build strength, flexibility, and body awareness.
About the presenter: for the past 14 years, Lisa Staples has immersed herself in the study of Pilates, teaching for the last seven. Her passion for learning and movement drives her to continually discover new ways to build strength and resilience—for herself and for those she works with.
