Writer's Workshop
Wed, Jan 5, 2022
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Is "flash fiction" a longstanding tradition or a contemporary trend? How is a flash fiction story different from a story of conventional length?

Join us for this introduction into flash fiction writing where you will learn techniques for how to write a brief but thorough story.

About the presenter: John Milas's short fiction has appeared in publications such as The Southampton Review, Superstition Review, Chicago Quarterly Review, and elsewhere. He has read journal submissions for Ninth Letter, Sycamore Review, 5x5, and Rejection Letters, and has judged the fiction category of Uni High's annual creative writing contest since 2015. John grew up in Champaign and has left twice: once to serve in the Marine Corps and once to attend graduate school at Purdue University, where he earned his MFA in fiction under the guidance of his thesis advisor, Roxane Gay. He is currently at work on a novel and short story collections, both inspired by his experience in the military. Learn more at johnmilas.com.
