In Concert at CPL: Melanie Devaney

Sun, May 31, 2020
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Enjoy an afternoon of music at the library. At times country, at times pop, she’s like a mix of Carole King and Emmylou Harris with confessional lyrics and heartfelt music to spare.

Melanie Devaney is a folk-Americana singer-songwriter from the small town of Epworth in Dubuque County Iowa (pop. 1,700). Classically trained in piano and holding a degree in Creative Writing, her songs are stories from her own life’s adventures and the cast of characters she has met and created along the way. She also performs a number of cover songs by well-known artists such as The Beatles, Eagles, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, U2 and Adele. She has been described by the San Diego Kensington News as “a real gem,” and her music is “ At times country, at times pop, she’s like a mix of Carole King and Emmylou Harris with confessional lyrics and heartfelt music to spare.”

Being a woman and singing songs about women is important to Melanie in an industry that is often male-dominated. She believes that every woman has a unique story to share with the world and, as much as possible, she tries to collect these stories and give them to the world as songs. Her songs celebrate women's courage, fortitude and their unique ability to nurture the culture to higher levels of understanding and acceptance.
