WE ARE THRILLED to announce the development of a new innovative space inside the Douglass Branch of Champaign Public Library. The Library plans to remodel an underutilized area of the current building at 504 E. Grove Street and transform it into a new makerspace that provides access to technology and cultivates creativity in our community.

“We welcome the chance to focus on developing new resources at the Douglass Branch,” shared Library Director Brittany Millington. “And with the generous support of the Library Foundation and Library Friends, project funding is already in place.”

Construction will begin in early December with the new makerspace opening in Spring 2025.

The new makerspace will offer innovative tech and programming resources for community members to enjoy and learn about while visiting the Douglass Branch. Creative tools will include VR headsets, Cricut machines, a Glowforge Aura laser cutter, 3D printing, sewing machines, and a recording booth. Similar to The Studio, the Douglass Branch Makerspace will offer a combination of workshops, drop-in hours, and Book-a-Librarian appointments.

With a focus on sustainability, the countertops, paint, acoustic panels, lighting fixtures, and flooring are all made from recycled materials.

Made possible with support from the Library Foundation and Library Friends.
