Douglass Branch:   Juneteenth


Date:   Saturday, June 13, 2026   (The Saturday before Juneteenth proper) 

Location:   Douglass Branch Library is located at 504 E. Grove Street, Champaign, IL 61820. 

Program  Time: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.


Volunteer Hours: 

1. First Shift and Setup: 10 a.m. to  1 p.m. 

2. Second Shift and Teardown: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  


Volunteer Request: 

We will  need  20  volunteers  for  this program. 

Program Description:  

Bring your family and friends to Douglass Park for summer  activities  celebrating community and commemorating the abolition of slavery. Presented in partnership by Champaign Public Library and Champaign Park District. 


Volunteer Job Description: 

Set-up and First Shift volunteers  will help with setting up tables, chairs, and tents  for library stations. They  will  also  help  with duties at each of the stations.  

Second Shift and Tear-Down volunteers will help with duties at each of the stations, and  assist  with breaking down the tables, chairs, and tents post-event.  

The stations include: 

  • Library Information and Giveaway Drawings Table 
  • Giant Yard Games Table 
  • Book Giveaways Table 
  • Button Maker Table  
  • Makerspace Demonstrations 
  • T-Shirt Giveaway Table 


If you are looking for an opportunity to organize a group volunteer project, please contact the  library’s volunteer coordinator and email   volunteer@champaign.org or call   (217) 403-2070, ext.      3     to discuss a group volunteer project.  Group projects without contact or confirmation from a volunteer coordinator will not be eligible.
