We welcomed close to 2,000 community members during the first week open! We offer activities in The Studio for teens every day after school, creative workshops for adults in the evenings, and are open to community members all weekend (Saturday, 9–6, and Sunday, 12–6), and by appointment. Short Story Contest, Awards Ceremony & Reading

DO YOU WRITE? Entries are due by November 10 for the fifth annual Short Story Contest. Three top stories will be read aloud at the awards ceremony and published on the library website. Grand prize includes a one-on-one consultation with a writing expert, a headshot for your portfolio, and a yearlong membership to MasterClass. Art Connection Exhibit & Opening Reception

Sunday, Nov. 5, at 3 pm | CELEBRATE A NEW EXHIBITION, “The Art Connection: Schools to Library,” with kids, teens, and art teachers from Barkstall Elementary, Jefferson Middle School, and Central High. This series showcases artwork by 150 students from Champaign Unit 4 schools each year. The opening reception will be in the FriendShop Bookstore on the lower level. The artwork will be on view through January in the FriendShop and in the Children’s area on the first floor.

Promotions Team Wins Prestigious State Award 

OUR PROMOTIONS TEAM, Evelyn Shapiro, Promotions Manager (above, left), and Gloria Roubal, Promotions Associate (right), were recently honored with the Illinois Library Association’s 2023 Deborah Dowley Preiser Marketing Award, recognizing excellence in public relations and library marketing over several years.

Shapiro has worked at Champaign Public Library for more than 16 years. She is a member of many state and national organizations and a sought-after speaker on social media and marketing topics. Her design and marketing background includes expertise in engaging museum and publishing audiences. Roubal has worked at Champaign Public Library for eight years. In addition to being an accomplished marketer, she draws on her experience in illustration and lettering to create custom graphics for library promotions. 

 

The award was presented at the Illinois Library Association Annual Conference in Springfield, Illinois.
