Juneteenth Emancipation Day Community Celebration |
Sat., June 17, from 12–3 pm, Douglass Park | JOIN US IN CELEBRATING 158 years since the news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas. Bring your family and friends to Douglass Park for summer fun and games, including music by local newcomers Haki ’n Dem, an American R&B and Neo Soul/Funk band. Activities include a bounce house, photo booth, face painting, and caricature artist. Visit with 20+ vendors and enjoy free icy treats! Presented in partnership with the Champaign Park District.

SUMMER IS A GREAT TIME to celebrate a love for reading. Kids, teens, and adults can win with the library’s Bee Creative! Summer Reading Challenge (through Aug 15). Prizes include books, rainbow pencils for kids, Champaign Park District passes and coupons to local eateries for teens, and even themed gift baskets (up to $350 value) for adults, with merchandise from local businesses and a Samsung Galaxy tablet. Sign up online or download the Beanstack app to get started. In the first ten days, 1,234 community members have already signed up, logging 133,000 minutes! |

The Studio Expansion Project |
THE LIBRARY is expanding, building an 8,000 sq. ft. space on the lower level, called The Studio. The design includes a makerspace with creative tools like 3D printers, sewing machines, Cricut machines, and a Glowforge laser cutter—in addition to a computer lab, gaming area, and recording studios.
