An Evening with Nnedi Okorafor

Nnedi Okorafor is the international award-winning author of  the Binti  and Akata Witch series, as well as issues of Marvel’s Black Panther comic book, Long Live the King. She writes African-based science fiction, fantasy, and magical realism for children, teens, and adults.  Ms. Okorafor will read from her books and share insights on writing. A book signing will follow. Doors open at 6:30 pm for refreshments and book sales.

Ms. Okorafor’s new Marvel comic, Shuri, premieres October 17. Her graphic novel, LaGuardia, debuts October 31. And her World Fantasy Award–winning novel, Who Fears Death, is being made into an HBO series with George R.R. Martin as executive producer.

Great Author Inspires 90 Teen Readers

Through a partnership with Champaign Unit 4 School District, 90 middle school students are reading Akata Witch and Black Panther comics, as part of a special Nnedi Okorafor Book Club. This group from Edison, Franklin, and Jefferson will get to  travel to the Library to attend a writing workshop with Ms. Okorafor during the schoolday on October 18.

Library Gifts 50  Copies of Binti to Champaign Readers

In honor of Ms. Okorafor’s visit to the area, the Library is giving away 50 copies of Binti to Champaign readers. ”Read and pass along” books are appearing in coffee shops, hair salons, and waiting rooms around town.
