Literary Giants Visit Champaign Library: Colson Whitehead, Luis Alberto Urrea, and Nnedi Okorafor


WE ARE THRILLED to host three literary giants this fall as part of our 2018 Great Authors at the Library series: Colson Whitehead (Sep. 13), Luis Alberto Urrea (Sep. 29), and Nnedi Okorafor (Oct. 18).

Colson Whitehead is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Underground Railroad who won both the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award in 2016. Mr. Whitehead will read from his books and share insights on writing. A book signing will follow. Doors open at 6:30 pm for book sales.*

*Both library locations will close at 5 pm. The Main Library will reopen at 6:30 pm for this special presentation. Seating for 200+ attendees will be upstairs on the second floor and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Standing room will also be available. No reservations needed.

An Afternoon with Luis Alberto Urrea
SAT Sep. 29 • 3 pm

Luis Alberto Urrea is the Pulitzer Prize winner and  New York Times bestselling author of Into the Beautiful North,  The Hummingbird’s Daughter, and his latest novel, The House of Broken Angels. Mr. Urrea will discuss writing and the thread of connection that weaves through his seventeen books. A book signing will follow. Doors open at 2:30 pm for refreshments and book sales. Part of The Pygmalion Festival.

An Evening with Nnedi Okorafor
THU Oct 18 • 7 pm

Nnedi Okorafor is the international award-winning author of the Binti and Akata Witch series, as well as issues of Marvel’s Black Panther comic book, Long Live the King. She writes African-based science fiction, fantasy, and magical realism for children, teens, and adults.  Ms. Okorafor will read from her books and share insights on writing. A book signing will follow. Doors open at 6:30 pm for refreshments and book sales.
