Request it, and we’ll hold it for you to pick up

Hold pick-up room at library

If you search the library catalog, and what you want isn’t available at the library right now, you can request it. If it’s checked out to someone else, your name goes on a waiting list. If it’s owned by a nearby library in the Lincoln Trail Libraries System, they’ll pull it off the shelf for you.

We’ll let you know when your item is ready to pick up. At the Main Library, you’ll find it in the “holds pick-up” room, past the checkout desk (see above). At our Douglass Branch, ask for it at the desk.

To request something:

  • Find it in the catalog and click on the “Request…” button, or
  • Call us at 217/403–2070 during library hours (for children’s books, call 217/403–2030).

Most items may be requested — even brand new materials that haven’t arrived at the library yet. Only rental items and reference materials can’t be requested.

If we don’t own what you want

Can I cancel a request?

If you‘ve changed your mind or no longer need a requested item, canceling your request is a nice courtesy for patrons who may be waiting for the same item.

  • Cancel your request in your account information online.
  • Call 217/403–2000 and ask us to cancel your request for you.

Can I change where to pick up my item?

Yes. You can either:

  • Cancel the request in your account information, then place it again, choosing the different location for pick-up.
  • Call us at 217/403–2000 and ask us to change your pick-up location.
