Self-checkout: tips for success

These pointers will help ensure smooth self-checkout at our new library. Remember, too, that we always have staff at the desk who are happy to help you! If you don’t need to speak to a staff member, though, feel free to step right up to any available self-check computer.

  1. Don’t worry if your library card won’t scan. Hit “Cancel” and try it in a different direction, or just type your card number on the keypad onscreen.
  2. Count your items as you put them on the scanning pad (one layer deep works best). That’s easier than trying to keep track of specific titles.
  3. Once the right number of items appears onscreen, hit “Continue” and wait while the due dates appear. Then remove your items from the pad and press “More Items” if you need to scan more.
  4. When you’re all done, if the number of items listed on your receipt matches the number of items you’re taking home, you’re good to go!
