How can I get a library card?

Complete a registration form. You’ll need to show us a photo ID plus something official with your address printed on it (a copy of a bill or lease, for example). A parent or guardian must be present, along with their child or teen, to get a card for anyone under the age of 18.

What’s my PIN?

You need a 4-digit PIN to access your library account online. Your default PIN is the last four digits of your phone number. You can change your PIN in your account information.

Do you accept cards from other libraries? Can I use my Champaign card at other libraries?

Our library is part of a cooperative, the Lincoln Trail Libraries System. We accept cards from any library in this system including Urbana, Tolono, Mahomet, and other nearby towns. You can also use your Champaign card at any of these libraries.

University, college, and school ID cards and library cards cannot be used to check out materials here. However, students of all ages are welcome to get a card from the public library in the town where they live.

Can I use the University of Illinois libraries with my Champaign card?

No. However, anyone who lives in Illinois can get a courtesy card for the U of I libraries. To get a courtesy card, you‘ll need two pieces of identification, a photo ID and address verification. Address verification can be a current lease, vehicle registration, or utility bill in your name from the current month or the preceding month. My address has changed. Should I tell the library?

Yes; please call 217/403–2000 or let us know on your next visit. Bring along proof of your new address (something like a bill or a check that has your new address printed on it). Please note that you cannot update your own address in your library account; we need to change it for you.
