Free computers = access for all.

We have computers with free Internet access, software such as word processing, and games for kids. Learn how and when to sign up. Our new library offers Wi-Fi.

How do I sign up to use a computer at the library?

Our computers provide free access to the Internet, e-mail, word processing and other software, and research databases. Self-service reservation stations let you reserve the next free computer, or reserve computer time up to a week in advance. You can also call us and we’ll make the reservation for you. Call the Information Desk at 217/403–2070. For the children’s department, call 217/403–2030, and for the Douglass Branch, call 217/403–2090.

A quiet computer room is available in the Main Library for use by one person per workstation, free of talking and cell phone use.

To help ensure access for everyone, computer time is limited to 1 hour per person per day. At the Main Library, in our adult and teen areas, you may have up to two 30-minute extensions, if the computer time is available.

Do I need a library card?

Before you sit down at a library computer, you need a library card from Champaign or any nearby public library (those in the Lincoln Trail Libraries System). You need to enter your card number when you reserve a computer and when you log in.

We offer the option of a special card for computer access only. Just bring in a photo ID and something showing your current address and we can give you a computer guest card.

Can I bring files with me and save my work?

Yes, you can use CDs, DVDs, or USB drives.

Can I print out from the computers?

You can print from any computer in the library. Printouts cost 10 cents per black and white page and $1 per color page.

Can I connect my laptop to the Internet at the library?

There are many places in the library to plug in a laptop for power. Look for the square outlet panels in the floor.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes, you can use Wi-Fi anywhere in our buildings. We’ve also assembled a handy map of other Wi-Fi locations across Champaign-Urbana.

Can kids use the computers in the adult department? Can adults use the computers in the children’s department?

Kids can use the computers in the Adult Services department, but these computers do not have any children’s games. The computers in the children’s department are for children only.

What is your Internet use policy?

You’ll find it in the policies section of this website.
