To find a poison control center in your area, you can utilize the American Association of Poison Control Centers website.
A local Poison Control Center is located in Urbana at the Carle Foundation Hospital Education Center. You can contact them at (217) 326–6601. This center provides poison prevention education but does not manage exposure cases.
A source for both prevention advice and treatment recommendations is the Illinois Poison Center (IPC). IPC serves all of Illinois 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is staffed by nurses, physicians, pharmacists and other poison specialists. IPC offers free, confidential poison prevention advice and treatment recommendations via a toll-free hot line: 1–800-222–1222. Be sure to have information about the poison.
If you are unsure of the number or whether to call — always call 911 in an emergency.
If concerned about a pet, you can utilize the website for the Animal Poison Control Center.
