Urbana TIF Districts
Description:
What are TIF Districts?
TIF Districts are special funds established to leverage private investment in designated redevelopment areas including sections of the central business district. TIF is used to pay for the public improvements and other services needed to prepare a project area for private investment. TIF allows a community to capture the increase in various state and local taxes that result from a redevelopment project to pay for the public costs involved in the project.
How can I find out if my property or business is within a TIF District?
The City of Urbana has established three TIF districts. To find out if your property is within the TIF district, call 217–384-2442. A copy of the map is available at your request.
