“...one of the records was by a group called Champaign, of which I was a member.”
By Rocky M., November 2007
Once upon a time the CPL had a collection of vinyl records. They had a checkout desk devoted to AV materials (there was also a dedicated smoking area. How times change!). I was standing in line at that desk waiting to check out. There was a boy in front of me with an arm full of records. The librarian, who was a friend of mine, began the process of checking out the boy’s materials when she noticed that one of the records was by a group called Champaign, of which I was a member.
She asked the boy if he like the group Champaign. “Oh yes, I saw them on TV!” was his reply.
Well, the librarian continued, the man standing behind you plays with that group. The boy looked at me and then at the album cover and then back to me.
“He ain’t in the band,” the boy proclaimed.
The librarian tried to assure him that yes, I was in the band, but the boy would have none of it. The boy’s response: “If he’s so famous, then what’s he doing at the library?”
