“The library is a ‘gem’ in our lives....”

By Norma W., September 2007

Several years ago my daughter and her family moved back to Champaign from California. Her husband was a doctoral student and completed his degree in three years. The family made use of the library weekly and loved it. They moved back to California and on a visit eight months later, when my grandson was four, my husband and I took him to the library with us.

As we entered, one librarian said “Kevin, I have not seen you for a while, where have you been?” Kevin just grinned, with hands in pockets, glad to have been missed. We grandparents explained the move and we all went about our business. The librarian’s attentiveness made a big impression on us as I’m sure she has on a lot of people. Kevin is a senior at Arizona State but this fall semester is interning at Second City in Chicago.

The library is a “gem” in our lives and one of the joys of living in our great community. “We all guide as we move along.”
