Your work can change lives

We help kids learn to read so they can succeed. We connect people to ideas and information. We enrich everyday life, too, with a huge selection of popular books, movies, and CDs, plus free computer access for everyone. Close to 120 enthusiastic library employees make all of that happen every day.

Where You’ll Work

Most of our staff of about 125 people work at our Main Library near downtown Champaign. A beautiful new library building opened in January 2008.

Our Douglass Branch Library at 504 E. Grove St. is a friendly, neighborhood library built in 1997. It sits on the edge of Douglass Park.

A handful of staff work on our Bookmobile. It travels to more than a dozen school and neighborhood stops around town each week.

What You’ll Do: We’re Not All Librarians!

The library has an enthusiastic, diverse, and customer focused staff doing many different kinds of work, including:

  • Administrative support
  • Public service
  • Maintaining facilities
  • Shelving books
  • Computer support
  • Accounting
  • Promotions
  • Fundraising
  • Data entry

Plus, we have some of the best information experts and storytellers around — our librarians!
